Ellsworth Boys Win North!
The Ellsworth Boy's Basketball team won their first Class B North (formerly East) Championship on Saturday, February 20th, defeating Orono 52-34. Ellsworth has now won 10 games in a row, and will play for the Gold Ball and the State Championship on Friday night, February 26th at 8:30 PM in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio. The Eagles will play the Lake Region Lakers in the State Championships
Ellsworth jumped out to a 13-10 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Bryce Harmon had 7 points including a 3-pointer for Ellsworth, while Bruce St. Peter had 4 points and Zach Harris had 2 points. For Orono, Connor Robertson had 4 points, while Jake Koffman, Keenan Collett and Jackson Coutts each had 2 points.
In the 2nd Quarter, Ellsworth outscored Orono15-6 to take a 28-16 halftime lead, as Ellsworth passed the ball inside to Bruce St. Peter, who had 10 points, all from inside the paint. Cooper Henderson had 4 points and Kyle Golding had 1 point for the Eagles. For Orono Collett, Couts and Imao Worldring each had 2 points.
The 3rd Quarter was more up and down, but Ellsworth kept their lead at 13, as Orono was never to cut it below 9 points. In the 3rd Quarter for Orono, Kam Hines had 6 points, Worldring had 4 points and Koffman had 2 points. For Ellsworth, St. Peter had 5 points going 5-6 from the free throw line, Nick Bagley had 4 points, Harmon had 4 points and Henderson had 2 points.
In the 4th Quarter, Nick Bagley had 5 points, Harmon had 2 points and Golding had 2 points for the Eagles. For Orono Koffman and Hines had 2 points each.
Ellsworth was led by Bruce St. Peter with a game high 19 points. Bryce Harmon had 13 points and Nick Bagley had 9 points. Ellsworth was 17-20 from the free throw line.
Orono was led by Kam Hines with 8 points while jake Koffman, Keenan Collett and Imao Worldring each had 6 points. Orono was 2-6 from the free throw line.
