The Ellsworth Boys Basketball Team dug themselves a deep hole, trailing by 11 at halftime 31-20 before crawling back to tie the game 31-31 in the 3rd Quarter, but ultimately fell to Belfast Friday, December 22nd 57-53 at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth.

Belfast jumped out to a 10 point lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. leading 20-10.Chris Kelley led the way for Belfast with 6 points, Skylar Perkins had 4 points, Aaron Fuller and Dakoda Doolan each had a 3-pointer while Chris Barlett and Stanley Sturgiss each added 2 points. For Ellsworth Jackson Curtis had 4 points and Zach Harris, Sam Giffin and Javon Williams each chipped in 2 points.

Belfast extended the lead to 11 points at half time 31-20. In the 2nd Quarter Bartlett, and Fuller each had a 3-pointer, Tyler Bartlett had 3 points and Kelley added 2 points for the Lions. For Ellsworth Devin Grindle and Connor Crawford each had  a 3-pointer, and Harris and Curtis added 2 points each.

In the 3rd Quarter Ellsworth went on an 11-0 run to tie the score with 4:30 remaining in the 3rd Quarter, and at the end of the 3rd Quarter Belfast's lead had been cut to 4 points 39-35. Ellsworth outscored Belfast 15-8 in the Quarter.  Ellsworth was led by Curthis with 5 points, Jared Hamilton with 4 points, and then Harris, Andrew McCullough and Crawford each added 2 points. For the Lions Sturgis had a 3-pointer,  and Doolan and Luke Lightner each added 2 free throws while Jason Bartlett hit 1 free throw.

In the 4th Quarter, the Lions made their free throws when they counted going 9-13 from the line. Jason Bartlett was a perfect 8-8. Chris Kelley added 5 points, Aaron Fuller had a 3-pointer and Sturgis had 2 points. For Ellsworth, Curtis had 9 points including a 3-pointer, Hamilton had 4 points, Harris a 3-pointer and Darby Barry 2 points.

Ellsworth was led by Jackson Curtis with a game high 20 points while Zach Harris had 9 points. Ellsworth was 4-19 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Belfast was led by Jason Bartlett with 14 points while Chris Kelley had 13 points. The Lions were 6-18 from 3-point land.

Ellsworth now 2-2 is off until December 27th when they start a 3 game week schedule. December 27th they play at Presque Isle at 6:30 PM, December 28th they play at Caribou at 2:30 PM and then Saturday December 30th they play host to Orono at 6PM. Belfast 2-2 will play host to Winslow on Wednesday, December 27th at 2:30 PM.
