Ellsworth Boys Defeat Sumner

It was Senior Night at Katsiaficas Gymnasium on Thursday, January 30th and even though it was mid winter, it was raining, raining threes that is when Sumner traveled to take on the Ellsworth Eagles! Ellsworth and Sumner combined for a total of 18 3-pointers, as the Eagles poured in 10, while the Tigers added 8.

Sumner jumped out to an early 14-12 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Sam Smith added 8 points and Alex O'Hara had a 3-pointer for Sumner, while Steven Mahon had 8 points, including 2 3's for Ellsworth.

Sumner increased their lead to 6 points at the half 31-25. Cruz Moshier drained 3 3's for Sumner, while Alex Braley, Griffin Nightingale and Steven Mahon each added one for Ellsworth.

Ellsworth came out, and went on a 10-2 run in the 3rd Quarter with 4:54 left in the quarter, to take a 35-33 lead. Nightingale, Mahon each added another 3-pointer and Bruce St. Peter went 3-3 from the free throw line and with a basket added 5 points in the quarter. Ellsworth led 38-35 at the end of the 3rd Quarter.

Sumner came out firing with 4 3's in the 4th Quarter. Moshier added 2 more to give him 5 for the game, and Sam Smith added 2 3's to give him a game high 22 points. Ellsworth went 5-9 from the free throw line, and Nightingale added 2 3's in the 4th and Kyle Golding added 1 3-pointer, as Ellsworth outscored Sumner 20-19 to come away with the 58-54 victory.

Ellsworth was led by Mahon with 21 points, and Nightingale had 16 points. Nightingale and Mahon had 4 3 pointers each for Ellsworth. Simner was led by Sam Smith with 22 points, including 2 3-pointers, while Cruz Moshier had 17 points, 5 3-pointers.

Ellsworth improved to 8-8 on the season while Sumner fell to 6-10.
