The Ellsworth City Council banned the use of all forms of tobacco and smoking of any kind at all City parks and recreational facilities on Monday April 17th according to a story by the Ellsworth American. The ban includes smoking of cigarettes, marijuana, vaping and smokeless tobacco as well.

The following are included in the tobacco and smoke free zones: Knowlton Park, S.K. Whiting Park, Harbor Park, the Union River waterfront, the Leonard Lake picnic area, the Branch Lake boat launch and recreation area, the Branch Lake public beach, Demeyer and Wilson fields on the Boggy Brook Road and the bike and pedestrian path from Birch Street to North Avenue.

The City with the recommendation of the Recreation Committee may put up signs in these areas advising that they are now smoke and tobacco free. The policy does not carry any financial penalties as currently written for those smoking or using tobacco in these designated smoke and tobacco free areas.
