The Bangor Daily News is reporting that long time Ellsworth High School Athletic Director Jay Brown is retiring. Brown, who is 62, has been the athletic director at Ellsworth since 1999.

Jay was the interim Boy's Basketball Coach at Ellsworth High School during the 2005-05 and 2006-07 season. The 2006-07 was the first season we did broadcasts of Ellsworth High School Basketball on WDEA, and I remember broadcasting the 87-75 triple overtime victory by Ellsworth over Hermon, a game in which Corey DeWitt scored 52 points. Ellsworth made it to the semifinals both years, and Brown had a 30-10 record.

On a personal note, Jay was a tremendous advocate for Ellsworth High School. He was always pushing me to include more Ellsworth games on the broadcasts. This past year, he broadcast a couple of games with me, and those were some of my favorite broadcasts. He will be missed. Best of luck to Jay, and I hope that you enjoy your retirement with your wife Beth!

We will have more information on Jay Brown's replacement and the process of hiring a new Athletic Director in the days ahead
