The Ellsworth Eagles picked up a much needed victory over Class C rivals, Washington Academy 7-4 on Friday afternoon, May 20th in Ellsworth.

Bradly Smith reached on a error in the bottom of the 1st inning and advanced to 2nd on a fielder's choice. Smith then scored on Nick Bagley's single, to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

In the 2nd inning, Ellsworth pushed across two more runs, all without a hit as the Eagle took advantage of a walk and two errors. At the end of two innings Ellsworth led 3-0.

In the top of the 3rd inning Washington Academy scored 2 runs, but the Eagles answered with 2 of their own. Sam Giffin singled and stole 2nd but was erased at 3rd on a fielder's choice. Jared Hamilton, who reached on the fielder's choice scored on consecutive singles by Chris Barnes ,Troy Folmer and Avery Anderson. Barnes scored on a bases loaded walk by Bradly Smith. After 3 innings, Ellsworth led 5-2.

Ellsworth scored another run in the bottom of the 4th inning. Andrew Brown walked , stole 2nd base, advanced to 3rd on a passed ball and scored on Giffin's ground out. the Eagles led 6-2 after 4 innings.

Washington Academy scored 2 more runs in the top of the 5th but the Eagles put across another run in the bottom of the 5th. Smith waled to start the inning and stole 2nd. He then advanced to 3rd on Jack Lee's single and scored on an error.

Washington Academy committed 6 errors in the game while Ellsworth committed 3.

Bradly Smith pitched 5 innings for Ellsworth, striking out 2 and walking 4. He gave up 4 runs, all earned on 4 hits. Avery Anderson pitched the final 2 innings allowing just 1 hit with no walks or strikeouts.

Jordi Valls pitched 4 innings allowing 6 runs, 3 of which were earned on 6 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 4. Spencer Johnson pitched the last innings giving up 2 hits, 1 run, striking out 1 and walking 3.

For Ellsworth Chris Barnes had 2 singles, while Jack Lee, Nick Bagley, Sam Giffin, Tory Folmer and Avery Anderson all had a single.

For Washington Academy Jordi Valls had 2 singles, Cameron Varney had 2 doubles and Ian Currier had a double.

Ellsworth is now 4-8 and plays at John Bapst on Tuesday, May 24th at 4:30 PM.

Washington Academy is now 6-5 and plays host to Calais on Monday, May 23rd at 3:30 PM.
