The game promised to be a good one, and it certainly was that and more, as the defending Class B North, Ellsworth Eagles played host to the Class C State Champs, the GSA Eagles on Friday, December 16th at Katsiaficas Gymnasium. GSA prevailed 74-67.

Ellsworth jumped out to a 19-14 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter, hitting 4 3-pointers. Bryce Harmon had 9 points with a 3-pointer, Zach Harris had 7 points with a 3-pointer and Troy Folmer had a 3-pointer for Ellsworth. Percy Zentz had 6 points for GSA and Taylor Schildroth, Max Mattson, Jarrod Chase and Stefan Simmons all had 2 points for GSA.

In the 2nd Quarter, GSA outscored Ellsworth 25-9 to take a 39-28 lead going into the Half. Ellsworth didn't score until there was 2:56 left in the Half, and GSA had gone on a 20-0 run. Schildroth had 11 points, Max Mattson had 7 points, Zentz had 3 points, Chase had 2 points and Simmons had 2 points for GSA. GSA was deadly from the free throw line going 10-11 in the Quarter. Meanwhile Ellsworth was ice cold until the last 2:56 when Harris had 5 points including a 3-pointer, Harmon had 2 points and Jared Hamilton had 2 points.

In the 3rd Quarter, Ellsworth cut the lead, outscoring GSA 14-9 but GSA led 48-42. Dylan Taplin had 2 3-pointers, Haris had 4 points and Harmon had 4 points for Ellsworth. Meanwhile GSA's Chase had 3 points and Schildroth, Mattson and Simmons all had 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter, GSA hit just enough free throws, to preserve the win, going 12-22 for the Quarter. Schildroth had 10 points, going 8-16 from the free throw line. Zents had 5 points, Chase had 6 points, Simmons had 3 points and Max Mattson had 3 points. For Ellsworth Harmon took turns sinking 3-pointers and slashing into the basket. In the 4th Quarter he scored 14 points, with 2 3-pointers. Jackson Curtis had 4 points including a 3-pointer and Hamilton had 4 points while Folmer sank another 3-pointer.

GSA put 4 players in double figures, Schildroth with 25 points, Zentz with 14, Max Mattson with 13 points and Jarrod Chase with 11 points. GSA was 23-37 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth was led by Bryce Harmon with a game high 29 points. Zach Harris had 16 points. Ellsworth was 3-7 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth is now 2-1 on the season and will play host to Mattanawcook Academy on Monday, December 19th at 6 PM in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio.

GSA is 3-0 and plays host to Bucksport on Tuesday, December 20th at 7 PM.
