The Ellsworth Eagles Boys Basketball Team shot 53% from the field and hit 9 3-pointers in a 66-60 victory over the Orono Red Riots in Ellsworth on Saturday, December 30th, but the game wasn't decided until the final minutes.

Ellsworth led 20-16 at the end of the 1st Quarter as Bradly Smith and Zach Harris each had 2 3-pointers for 6 points each. Dylan Taplin, Javon Williams, Connor Crawford and Jackson Curtis each had 2 points. For Orono, Sam Martin and Connor Roberston had 6 points each and Jonny Spencer and Evan Kenefic added 2 points each.

In the 2nd Quarter Orono outscored Ellsworth 16-15 to cut Ellsworth's lead to 3 points at the end of the 1st Half 35-32. In the 2nd Quarter Robertson had 10 points with 2 3-pointers for Orono and Martin added 4 points with Zack Dill chipping in 2 points. For Ellsworth Curtis had 8 points with 2 3-pointers, Jared Hamilton added 4 points and Harris hit his 3rd 3-pointer of the night.

Orono outscored Ellsworth again in the 3rd Quarter 14-8 to take a 46-43 lead. Robertson had 8 points for Orono, and Martin, Jonathan Steelman and Kenefic had 2 points each.  For Ellsworth Smith hit his 3rd 3-pointer, and Hamilton and Williams added 2 points each with Harris going 1-2 from the free throw line.

In the 4th Quarter, the Eagles were finally able to shut down Robertson, holding him scoreless. Curtis had 7 points with his 3rd 3-pointer for Ellsworth. Harris had 6 points going 4-4 from the free throw line. Taplin and Hamilton had 4 points each and Smith chipped in 2 points for the Eagles. For Orono Martin and Spencer had 4 points each while Steelman and Kenefic each had a 3-pointer.

Ellsworth had 4 players in double figures, Jackson Curtis with 17 points, Zach Harris with 16 points, Bradly Smith with 11 points and Jared Hamilton with 10 points. The Eagles were 7-9 from the free throw line.

Orono was led by Connor Robertson with a game high 24 points. Sam Martin had 16 points. The Red Riots were 4-7 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth now 4-3 will play Washington Academy in Ellsworth on Thursday, January 4th with the pregame starting at 6:15 and tipoff at 6:30 on AM 1370 WDEA, WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.
