EASTERN MAINE CHAMPS!!!!!!!!

The MDI Trojans were the decided underdogs going into today's Eastern Maine Championship game against the Presque Isle Wildcats! Presque Isle had a 63 game winning streak,, and MDI hadn't won a Eastern Maine Championship since 2003, the last year they had won back to back to back Gold Balls. But the way the MDI Girls came out firing, they refused to lose!

Sarah Phelps drained 3 3-pointers for 9 points in the 1st Quarter, for MDI and Hannah Shaw added 6 points. Presque Isle got 2 3-pointers from Taylor Williams for 6 points and Emily Lagerstrom had a 3-pointer for the Wildcats. At the end of the 1st Quarter, MDI ws up 17-11.

In the 2nd Quarter both teams continued to rain 3-pointers. Phelps added another 3-pointer, Molly Carroll had a 3 pointer and Sierra Tapley had a 3 pointer for MDI, who had 6 3's in the 1st Half. Presque Isle received a 3 pointer from Morgan Wilcox and Williams added another 3 pointer. It was 32-19 MDI at the end of the 1st Half, MDI, with both teams combinding for 11 3's. MDI did a great job defensively on Presque Isle's Hannah Graham the Big East Girl's Player of the year and on Krystal Kingsbury, as they were both held scoreless.

In the 3rd Quarter, MDI led by as much as 15 points, but at the end of the 3rd, it was MDI 46 Presque Isle 35. Williams had another 3 pointer for the Wildcats, and Graham and Kingsbury each added 4 points. MDI received 6 points from Kelsey Shaw, and sister Hannah Shaw added 4 points.

In the 4th Quarter, Presque Isle wouldn't quit, as they got the lead down to 5, but MDI refused to lose! Hannah Graham sank 3 3-pointers, and Emily Lagerstrom had 2 more 3-pointers. MDI's Hannah Shaw, a Miss Basketball semifinalist scored 11 points in the 4th Quarter, including going 5-6 from the free throw line to lead MDI to the 63-51 victory!

With the win, MDI will now play in the State Championship game, Friday, February 28th at the Cross Insurance Center and will play the winner between Lake Region and Wells at 7:05, in a game that will be broadcast on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio!
