Eagles Tame Tigers Again

It was the 17th game of the season, the next to last game, and both Ellsworth and Sumner were looking to build some momentum going into the last game of the season when Ellsworth and Sumner met January 31, 2014 at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth.

Ellsworth jumped out to a 15-10 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Emily Berry had 5 points for Ellsworth, and Jordan Merchant had 5 points for Sumner.

In the 2nd Quarter, Ellsworth outscored Sumner 12-11 to take a 27-21 half time lead. Emily Berry added 4 more points for Ellsworth, and Jessica West had 6 points and Savana Turner had a 3 pointer for Sumner. Ellsworth was 9-18 from the free throw line in the 1st Half, while Sumner was 6-11.

In the 3rd Quarter, Ellsworth extended their lead to 8 points, as it was 41-33. Emily Berry added 4 more points for Ellsworth, Morgan Card had 4 points and Maddie Dow chipped in 4 timely points for Ellsworth. Jordan Merchant had 7 points for Sumner.

In the 4th Quarter, Sumner cut Ellsworth's lead to 5 points, but Ellsworth made their free throws when it counted, as they went 10-13 from the free throw line. Maddie Card went 7-9 from the charity stripe and added a basket on her way to a season high 13 points. Morgan Card had a 3-pointer for Ellsworth. Sumner was led by Jessica West and Jordan Merchant who each chipped in 4 points in the quarter. Ellsworth came away with the 58-47 victory.

Ellsworth was led by Emily Berry with 16 points while Maddie Card had 13 and Morgan Card had 12 points. Ellsworth finished 19-33 from the free throw line. Sumner was led by Jordan Merchant with 16 points and Jessica West had 10 points.

Ellsworth is now 8-9, and owns a 3 game winning streak. They host MDI on Thursday, February 6th at 7 PM. That game will be Senior Night for the Ellsworth Girl's Basketball Team and the game will be broadcast on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio. Fans are encouraged to bring a box or boxes of pasta to the game, with all the pasta going to food cupboards in Ellsworth and Bar Harbor. Sumner is now 7-10 on the season and plays their last game Tuesday, February 4th at Washington Academy.
