The Ellsworth Eagles Girls Basketball Team suffered a frustrating loss to the Orono Red Riots on Wednesday, January 24th falling 48-44 after being up 10-2 at the end of the 1st Quarter.

The Eagles led 10-2 at the end of the 1st Quarter, and 21-16 at the end of the 1st Half. Orono took the lead at the end of the 3rd Quarter 33-29 and then the Red Riots made their free throws when they counted, going 7-9 from the free throw line in the 4th Quarter.

Ellsworth was led by Trinity Montigny with 16 points and Katelynn Bagley had 12 points. Montigny had a 3-pointer. The Eagles were 8-12 from the free throw line.

Orono had 3 players in double figures with Lauren Melanson and Ellie Sockabasin scoring 14 points each and Isabelle Henderson scoring 13. Alyssa LaBelle had 2 3-pointes, and Melanson sanked 2 3-pointers. The Red Riots were 10-13 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth , now 7-5, is right back at it, with two games this weekend. They play host to Presque Isle Friday night, January 26th at 6 PM and then Caribou on Saturday, January 27th at 11:30 AM.

Orono, now 3-9 plays at Washington Academy on Friday January 26th at 7 PM.
