The Ellsworth Eagles picked up their 1st victory of the season, with a 5-4 victory over the MDI Trojans in Ellsworth on Friday, May 6th.

MDI took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning. Alden Fournier singles and Riley Swanson doubled putting Fournier at 3rd. Fournier would score on a wild pitch by Nick Bagley.

Ellsworth would take the lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Austin Baron led off the inning with a walk, and Jack Lee singled. Bagley sacrificed the runners along, and then both Baron and Lee would score on a 2 run single by Chris Barnes.

MDI tied the game in the top of the 4th inning. Seth Young singled and Dylan Collinsingled. Young scored on a passed ball.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, with 2 outs, Devin Grindle doubled. Baron walked and then Jack Lee drove in Grindle and Baron with a double. That made the score 5-2 Ellsworth.

In the top of the 6th inning, MDI narrowed the lead, scoring 2 runs. With 2 outs, Matt Lambert pinch hit for Mac Shea and walked. Jacob Mitchell walked and then Ezra Johnson tripled, scoring Lambert and Mitchell and the score was 5-4 Ellsworth.

That's how the game ended, as Bagley retired the Trojans in the top of the 7th inning, despite Swanson's 2 out single.

Bagley pitched a complete game for the win for the Eagles. He struck out 9 and walked 3, giving up 7 hits.

Matt Perconti took the loss for the Trojans. He allowed 6 hits, striking out 5 and walking 3 in 4 innings. Geoffrey Hanscom pitched the last 2 innings, holding the Eagles hitless and walking 1 and striking out 1.

For MDI Swanson was 2-4 with a double. Nick Stanley had a double and Ezra Johnson had a triple. Alden Fournier, Seth Young and Dylan Collin singled.

For Ellsworth Jack Lee was 2-4 with a double. Chris Barnes, Zach McGraw, and Avery Anderson singled while Devin Grindle doubled. McGraw, Anderson and Grindle were the 7-8-9 hitters.

MDI is 3-4 and play Saturday, May 7th at Foxcroft Academy at 12 Noon.

Ellsworth is 1-4 and play a doubleheader at home against Caribou on Saturday, May 7th at 12 Noon and 2 PM.
