A Bucksport man faces charges after officials found evidence of a meth lab in his home.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says Bucksport and State Police searched the home of Adam Staples, age 49, at 396 Central Street in Bucksport on Tuesday evening. Staples is on probation for a burglary conviction and conditions of that probation require him to allow law enforcement to search his home for drugs and alcohol. During that search, police found what appeared to be items consistent with the manufacture of methamphetamine. Maine Drug Enforcement agents were notified of the find, and MDEA's lab response team went to the house and confirmed that there was evidence of a meth lab. Staples was taken to the Hancock County Jail for violating his probation.

The house was secured overnight until drug agents could return on Wednesday to process the potentially hazardous evidence. Once the investigation is complete, MDEA officials plan to charge Staples with unlawful operation of a methamphetamine laboratory, which is a class B felony.

MDEA's lab team was assisted by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection and the Bucksport Fire Department. This is the 50th meth lab response this year.
