All the inmates at the Downeast Correctional Facility were reportedly moved to other jails overnight.

WABI-TV reports the inmates were loaded into buses, starting at 12:30 a.m. Friday. There's no word on what prompted Department of Corrections personnel to show up at the facility and start moving them out. The inmates were moved to the Mountain View Correctional Facility in Charleston. In addition, workers at the facility were given letters at 6:00 this morning, stating that they are now on paid administrative leave until March.

Union Representative, Jim Mackie, of the AFSCME Council 93 says there was no warning. The closing came as a complete surprise since the prison is supposed to be funded until June.
