The historic 1932 Criterion Theatre in Bar Harbor will be closed briefly from Friday March 3rd through Wednesday March 15th as they will be adding an elevator.

According to a press release Heather Martin, the Director of the Criterion Theatre stated "For years and years treasured memories have been made up in the Criterion loge. It's no secret that the balcony is everybody's favorite place. Except that "everybody" was limited to those able to climb the stairs. Now through this extremely generous gift, the balcony truly will be available to all our visitors. We are extremely excited about being accessible to more of our community."

The theatre will reopen  on Thursday, March 16th with the premiere of Beauty and the Beast. The elevator is expected to be operational in August. R.L. White of Bar Harbor is the contractor.
