The Conners-Emerson School in Bar Harbor was named as 1 of 3 Blue Ribbon Schools in the State of Maine on Thursday, September 28th by the Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. In total s 342 schools in 44 states, the District of Colombia and Department of Defense Schools in Japan, Germany and West Point, NY were named as  National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2017.

Joining Conners-Emerson in Maine were the 14th Street School in Bangor and Falmouth Elementary School.

According to the Commission's press release today, the above 3 schools in Maine were selected as "Schools of Excellence" for their their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student groups, and for demonstrating high levels of success across their student bodies.

Representatives from Connors-Emerson School, the 14th Street School and Falmouth Elementary School will be invited to Washington, D.C., for an awards ceremony in November. At the ceremony, each Blue Ribbon school will be presented with an award plaque and a flag.

The Conners-Emerson School was named a Blue Ribbon School in 2004.
