U.S. Coast Guard officials say the missing cargo ship El Faro likely sank during Hurricane Joaquin last week, and rescuers are now focusing on survivors.

Thirty-three crew members, including four people from Maine, were aboard the ship when it went missing near the Bahamas on Thursday.

In a news conference Monday morning, Coast Guard Capt. Mark Fedor said searchers have found survival suits, life boats and life rafts. Fedor said one survival suit was found with unidentifiable human remains.

The Coast Guard will "focus more on potential people in the water," Fedor said. "We are not looking for the vessel any longer."

The captain of the ship is Michael Davidson of Windham. The crew also includes 2010 Rockland District High School graduate Dylan Meklin, Danielle Randolph of Rockland and Michael Holland of Wilton.
