Cause of Fatal Fire is Listed as Undetermined

The State Fire Marshal's office has listed the cause of a fatal fire in Hermon Tuesday morning as 'undetermined.' That could change, pending further investigation. Investigators also conducted interviews about whether there were smoke detectors in the home.

So far, all investigators know is that the fire started in the kitchen. Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said the fire marshal's office was told there were two smoke detectors in the home. They've only been able to locate one and investigators say it didn't have batteries. In addition, first responders and the first person on the scene say they don't remember hearing any detectors going off.

The mobile home at 292 Wing Road in Hermon was occupied by John Parker and Lacey Reidy. They told fire officials that they had left the children alone after they got up so they could run some errands. The couple has two children, 10-year-old Ashlyn, and 8-year-old John. The boy wasn't hurt, but Ashlyn remained in the hospital overnight, and is being treated for smoke inhalation.

John Parker's nephew, Wyatt Parker was killed in the fire. The 9-year-old's body was found in the living room.
