The Maine Game Warden service recovered the body of a man who had been on a solo fishing trip. His wife reported him missing Wednesday when he didn't check in.

Warden Service Trooper John MacDonald said in a press release that Roland Mayhew, age 60, from Hampden, was traveling alone on a fishing trip and staying at the Big Eddy Campground in Millinocket. He made day trips to favorite fishing spots on Monday and Tuesday. But when he didn't check in with his wife, Phyllis, on Wednesday, she notified authorities.

A search plane spotted what they believed to be Mayhew's body in Lower Bean pond at around ten o'clock Wednesday morning. Wardens on the ground found the man and his canoe and say he did have a personal flotation device with him. His body was turned over the Lampson Funeral Home in Millinocket and an autopsy by the State Medical Examiner's Office is expected.

Hampden Police assisted with the case which is still under investigation.
