A fire that caused extensive damage at the Stanwood Museum building at Birdsacre in Ellsworth had a human element to it. Investigators are now trying to figure out who started the blaze.

Firefighters were called to the scene at around 6:15 Sunday evening. The building at the Ellsworth bird sanctuary is still standing but firefighters say fire, smoke, and water caused damage to the building as well as the artifacts inside.

Fenceviewer reports the fire has been declared arson by the State Fire Marshall's office and the investigation is ongoing.
