Big Papi for Mayor?

How popular is David "Big Papi" Ortiz in Boston right now?

Well, let's just say, without trying, David Ortiz finished third in the mayoral race for Boston on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. While Democrat Martin Walsh defeated Republican John Connelly in the race to take over from Mayor Menino, there were 560 write in votes.

Normally, the Boston Election Department does not list the write in votes, they did however confirm to WGBH that David Ortiz was the highest vote getter of all the write ins.

Just imagine if he actually had campaigned for the office? With all the Red Sox fans still swooning from Ortiz's fantastic World Series performance, he would have won in a landslide!
