Bangor Police Share Audio of Scammer Trying to Bilk Thousands Out of Elderly Man [AUDIO]
The Bangor Police Department shared audio on their Facebook page this week of a call between an elderly man and a scammer trying to steal thousands of dollars from him.
The gentleman who was nearly victimized by these scumbags was told he had won a million bucks. But, in order to claim it, he had to send the caller twelve thousand dollars in cash. Kudos to him for questioning the validity of the call and contacting the police.
An officer went to the man's house and waited for the scammers to call again, recording the exchange. Listen as this caller pressures the man to get to the bank and get at least ten thousand dollars as soon as possible. It's understandable how someone who's very naive, or in a tough financial situation and excited about a million dollars, might fall victim to the high-pressure delivery.
Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. No one's going to call you and tell you that you've won a huge amount of money. You never have to pay money in order to claim winnings. It's never safe to give your financial information over the phone. And if you ever have doubts about the legitimacy of a call, hang up and call the police. They're happy to help you keep your cash!
