In a story that was published by Forbes, and picked up by Yahoo! Bangor Maine has officially been designated as one of the best places to retire! Of course, those of us who have lived here for many years can tell you that!

Let's look at the positives

There are great medical facilities nearby. There's Eastern Maine Medical Center and St. Joseph's Hospital. Eastern Maine Medical Center is a first class cancer facility, and the doctors that practice at St. Joseph's Hospital and Eastern Maine Medical Center are among the Who's Who.

There are fantastic higher learning facilities nearby, which offer plenty of classes for seniors. The University of Maine, Husson University, Beal College and Eastern Maine Community College offer plenty of opportunities.

There's plenty of entertainment. There are the 15 or so concerts that will be offered at the Darling's Waterfront Pavilion this summer/fall by Waterfront Concerts. The Bangor Symphony offers a great series of concerts. There's the Collin's Center at UMaine, the Grand in Ellsworth, the Gracie Theater at Husson and the new Cross Center which will open in the fall.

Don't forget Bar Harbor and the Coast just a hour away and the beauty of the Maine Seacoast! The mountains are less than a hour away. There's Bangor International Airport and lots of Greyhound and Vermont Transit bus service.

Plenty of great food! Delicious restaurants from family service to fine dining!

It's about time Bangor Maine received the well deserved recognition!
