A rally was held in Downtown Bangor today in recognition of the United States Supreme Court ruling making same sex marriage legal in every state. Representatives of the Bridge Alliance and Equality Maine spoke amidst cheers and rainbow-colored banners.

The timing of the decision was perfect for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender communities in the Bangor area. Saturday is the annual Bangor Pride Festival, that kicks off with a parade at 11:00. Downtown was already draped in rainbow banners, in recognition of the Pride activities that started earlier this week.

The rally was called quickly, after the announcement of the Supreme Court's ruling, so it was a small crowd in West Market Square. But the cheers could be heard echoing through the Downtown area and it seemed hugs were everywhere.

The audio on this video is a bit low, so turn your speakers up. But I wanted to share with you a bit of the joy and emotion that was on display in Bangor today as members of the community came together to celebrate history in the making!
