A baby who was not breathing after the vehicle she was riding in rolled over was saved by two men who happened to pass by.Three adults were also in the car that flipped over after the driver lost control on an icy road.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says it was around 4:20 Monday afternoon when an SUV, driven by Stephen McGouldrick, was traveling on Route 6 in Kossuth. McGouldrick lost control on the icy road and rolled the vehicle down an embankment. The SUV ended up on its roof in about two and a half feet of water.

McGouldrick, along with two female passengers, sustained minor injuries. The 3-month-old infant was submerged for a short time until Leo Moody of Kingman crawled into the vehicle and used his knife to cut the straps on the infant's seat and pull her out.

Another passerby, Wade Shorey, stopped and initiated CPR on the baby and successfully resuscitated her. All adult victims were taken to Calais Regional Hospital for treatment and are expected to be okay. The baby was taken to EMMC for observation.
