Construction crews will be hard at work on the Bangor Waterfront. This will cause a portion of the waterfront to be closed to the public.

The City of Bangor announced on Facebook today that a portion of the Bangor Waterfront will be closed so construction crews can work on a coal tar remediation project. Crews will be constructing a gravel cap over a portion of the river bottom that was previously contaminated with coal tar. The work starts Tuesday October 10.

Most of the parking spaces within the lots south of Railroad Street will be closed. The Waterfront Trail will remain open, however, a detour will be in place to avoid the work zone.

The project is expected to last four to six weeks.
