Three Augusta residents and a New York man were arrested by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency in connection with a crack cocaine and heroin sales operation in Augusta.

MDEA agents have been investigating the case since this summer and have made several undercover drug purchases.  Monday afternoon agents searched a residence on South Belfast Avenue in Augusta and seized 17 grams of crack cocaine and 2 grams of heroin, all with a street value of $3000. And the $2700 in cash that was seized is believed to be proceeds from drug sales. Augusta Police and the Kennebec Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation and yesterday’s search.

Those arrested were -

1.    Robert Hernandez- 24, from the Bronx, NY. Charged with 2 counts of Class B Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs. Bail was set at $10,000 cash.

2.    Heather Wilkinson- 48, Augusta. Charged with 2 counts of Class B Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs and 1 count of Class C Possession of Schedule W Drugs. Bail was set at $2000 cash.

3.    Randy Haskell- 54, Augusta. Charged with Class C Possession of Schedule W Drugs. Haskell was released on bail from the police department.

4.    Joshua Carey- 24, Augusta. Charged with violations of conditions of release- Class C felony. No bail allowed.

Maine Drug Enforcement Director Roy McKinney said Hernandaz has been traveling back and forth between Maine and New York in recent months delivering the drugs, which were then sold in Kennebec County.

“It’s another example of out of state drug dealers setting up shop in Maine and using our neighborhoods to establish a base of operation. Agents work hard to identify the dealers, investigate the cases and prosecute. MDEA has seen several examples of this during the past year throughout the state.” McKinney said.

The Augusta investigation is continuing and more arrests are likely. Anyone with information about drug trafficking is urged to contact the nearest MDEA office or by calling MDEA’s tip line at 800-452-1373.
