Size most definitely matters.

A python caught at a construction site in Malaysia checked in at 24.6 feet long and weighed 551 pounds (a far cry from this domesticated snake that one girl really loves).

Initially, people believed the python may have set the record for longest snake ever captured. That record currently belongs to Medusa, who, at 25.2 feet, now resides in Kansas City.

Sadly, the snake captured in Malaysia died, although it's not clear how. Officials, however, shot down one government official's guess that the creature committed suicide, saying, "Snakes don’t just drop dead. If they die there is a reason."

Either way, it's a sad ending to what could've been a record-setting discovery.
